Danger for Verstappen? Liam Lawson wants to prove himself at Red Bull!

In the 2025 Formula 1 season, Liam Lawson will be Max Verstappen's new team-mate at Red Bull. The 22-year-old New Zealander not only wants to prove himself as a supporter of the world champion, but also celebrate his own successes. After years of rotation in the second Red Bull seat, the team has now signed a driver who could be a serious long-term option.

Lawson has already gained valuable experience in Formula 2 and DTM and scored points three times as a substitute driver for Racing Bulls in 2023. His strong performance as a stand-in for Daniel Ricciardo impressed the team and ultimately secured his promotion to the main team. Now he has the chance to establish himself permanently in the premier class - in a team that has historically always had clear hierarchies.

Verstappen remains the undisputed number one, but Lawson could create new tension in the team. His ambitious and aggressive driving style could put pressure on the world champion and make for exciting internal duels. Red Bull has shown time and again in the past that internal team battles can escalate - the question is whether Lawson will allow himself to be drawn into such a dynamic or whether he will settle into the classic role of helper.

Both still have something to laugh about: Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson are relaxed and in a good mood. But how long will the harmony last? With Lawson as an ambitious challenger, the dynamic in Team Red Bull could soon change.

Should he seriously challenge Verstappen, this could be both an opportunity and a risk for the team. On the one hand, a strong second driver would be an advantage for the Constructors' Championship, while on the other, a renewed team rivalry could be reminiscent of previous tensions within Red Bull - as was once the case between Verstappen and Ricciardo or, before that, between Vettel and Webber.

Whether Lawson can really challenge Verstappen remains to be seen in 2025 - but one thing is certain: Red Bull has a highly motivated and talented driver on board who could cause surprises. Excitement is guaranteed.
